About the event
About the speaker: Dr. David Zakharov was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, where he attended the Russian State Geological Prospecting University with a focus on applied mineralogy and geochemistry. Between 2014 and 2020, David did his PhD at the University of Oregon under the supervision of Dr. Ilya Bindeman, studying early Paleoproterozoic low-δ¹⁸O hydrothermal systems to reconstruct the timing and conditions of Snowball Earth episodes. His postdoctoral appointment was held at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, working with Dr. Johanna Marin-Carbonne and the SwissSIMS national facility targeting a variety of geological systems, mainly of Archean age. From 2023, David is an assistant professor at Western Michigan University, where he and his group work on O-isotope geochemistry of various systems, including δ′18O-Δ′17O systematics of magmatic, hydrothermally altered rocks, and cherts.
